The index market

Each index is a basket of shares standing for a whole market — it moves with the mood of an economy rather than one company’s news, which is why its trend is cleaner than many other assets.

When does it move?

The strongest moves come at the US open and at the release of major data. Futures trade most of the day, but with thinner liquidity outside session hours.

What drives it?

Interest rates, inflation, earnings season, and the weight of the largest shares inside the basket — one huge stock can move the whole index.

How does the indicator read it?

The pivot baseline and the buy zones give a clear structure on mid-range timeframes, because index movement is less noisy than single pairs.
